Department of Excimer Laser Surgery
Our Department proposes to improve the sight and get rid of eyeglasses in several minutes for patients with myopia and complex myopic astigmatism. This became possible with the implementation of the new technology of excimer laser surgery of the cornea - the photorefractive keratectomy «LASIK».
In 1999 specialists of our clinic for the first time in the Northern Caucasus have executed the operation of myopia correction with the help of the excimer laser unit of the sixth generation «Profile-500». This unit of domestic manufacture allows executing refraction interventions in cases of myopia and of complex myopic astigmatism of different degree.
During the period of existence of the Department over 3000 excimer laser operations have been executed on the level of world standards. The latest achievement of the refractive surgery is the laser operation «LASIK» which permits to the patient to get high acuity of vision within several hours following the intervention.
Laser refraction operations are prescribed to the patients of 18-50 years of age in the absence of progressive myopia. In some cases there may occur the necessity of the preliminary strengthening of the retina and sclera.
The advantages of LASIK over other technologies are undeniable:
- Absence of pain during operation and afterwards.
- Vision restoration within 1-2 days following operation.
- Absence of such complications as the turbidity of cornea in the postoperative period.
The high professional skill of physicians, the individual approach to patients at all stages of checkup allow the fast and accurate determination of the treatment plan in every particular case and its successful implementation.
