The Krasnodar Branch of the Federal State Institution of the Intersectoral Research and Technology Complex «Eye Microsurgery» began its activities on Octoberš28, 1987. The clinic is headed by Mr. Sergey Nikolayevich Sakhnov, Honoured Doctor of Russian Federation, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Ophthalmologist of the Highest Qualification.

Due to progressive work arrangement, the use of new technologies of diagnostics and treatment and accurate selection of the staff, the centre has become the leading one in the academy of ophthalmologic aid of Krasnodar Region, the Northern Caucasus and the whole South Russian Region.

In the Branch, unique methods of treatment of the diseases, which have been considered as hopeless ones before, have been worked out. The prospective methods and technologies are being introduced. The staff of the clinic consists of highly qualified surgeons - ophthalmologists.

The Krasnodar Branch of the State Institution of the Intersectoral Research and Technology Complex Eye Microsurgery has operation and diagnostic modules, as well as mobile structures (mobile diagnostic teams) in the region. During the operation period, 400.000špeople have been consulted; 252.724šoperations have been carried out.

There are 233 beds in the clinic. It has the following subdivisions:

  • a scientific unit;
  • a diagnostic unit;
  • an operation unit;
  • a children's unit;
  • an operation excimer laser surgery unit;
  • a laser unit;
  • a unit rendering services to foreign citizens;
  • a unit of surgery of cataract and glaucoma;
  • a vitreoretinal surgery unit Diabetes of the Eye;
  • a unit of optical correction and conservative treatment;
  • an anesthesiological unit;
  • a clinical and bacteriological laboratory.

There are 70 physicians in the staff, 53 out of them are ophthalmic surgeons, 80%šophthalmologists of the highest qualification, 12šcandidates of medical sciences, 2 candidates of economic sciences, 1 doctor of medical sciences, 3šophthalmologists have the degree of the honoured doctor of Russian Federation, 2 physicians - therapeutists, a cardiologist, an endocrinologist, a bacteriologist - epidemiologist.

In the diagnostic department, 250 primary and secondary patients get consultation. The following investigations are carried out: measurement of visual acuity, keratorefractometry, keratotopography, tonometry, tonography, computer perimetry , campimetry, endothelial microscopy, electrophysiological investigations (EPI) - general electroretinography, visual evoked potentials, dopplerography, ultrasonic investigation (A and B methods), pneumotonometry, critical flicker fusion frequency, keratopachymetry.

The following equipment is available in the diagnostic unit: Humphrey Ultrasonic A/B scan system (modelš837), endothelial microscope SPš2000P - Topcon, dopplerograph Minimax Doppler- K, Medelec - electrophysiological investigations (ERG, ZVP - electrophysiological assessment of visual pathway function), automatic keratometer KR-7100šP Topcon, automatic keratometer Cannon, XPERT NCT PLUS advanced logic tonometer Reichert, Dicon LG 400šautoperimeter (field analyzer).

In the operation unit, 120 operations are performed every day. There are 10 operating tables equipped with operating microscopes.

The operation unit has the following equipment: microscopes MÃller Wedel - 9špieces, Leica; phacoemulsifiers: Storz-Millennium (30škHz), Storz-Prestige, B&L, Oertli – Catarhex, Alcon Seriesš20000 Legacyš20000 (40škHz); radiofrequency capsulorhexis+endocoagulator Oertli; laser phacoemulsifier «Racot 6» «Skate», 140 nm ultraviolet spectrum; vitreotomes Storz-Millennium, Alcon Universal; Commander System - Sciekan Technology; endolaser Melon, Cryoextractor – Killer, excimer laser Profile-500, excimer laser – “Allegretto Wave”, 190 nm ultraviolet spectrum; IOL has intraocular lenses of the Russian production(Moscow and Nizhniy Novgorod) and of the foreign make (USA: Alcon-Cilco, Alcon-Acrisoft natural, Acrisoft single piece series, Rumex; England: Rayner-Centerflex; Israel: Hanita Foldable IOL, Acrifold - India).

Annually, 47.000što 50.000špatients undergo diagnostic examination; 13.000što 15.000šsurgical operations are performed. The following surgical interventions are made: in case of cataract - laser extraction of cataract, ultrasound phacoemulsification, laser phacoemulsification, mechanical phacofragmentation with IOL implantation, extracapsular cataract extraction, intracapsular cataract extraction; in case of glaucoma - opticoreconstructive surgeries, deep sclerectomy, non-penetrating deep sclerectomy, microinvasive sclerectomy; in case of refraction anomalies - keratotomy, excimer laser keratectomy (photorefractive keratectomy), LASIK, phototherapeutic keratectomy, intrastromal segments implantation etc.; scleroplasty, collagenoplasty; operations in case of squint; cosmetic surgeries (face); blepharoplasty, pterygium, vitreoretinal (full services), retinal laser coagulation (myopia, diabetes etc.) In case of cornea diseases: penetrating keratoplasty and lamellar keratoplasty, artificial iris implantation. In case of vitreoretinal pathology: posterior vitrectomy, epiretinal membrane removal, tissue approximation, PFOS with endolasercoagulation, removal of intraocular foreign bodies, tamponade with silicon oil. Complex treatment of ametropia: laser stimulation, light magnetostimulation, electrostimulation of the retina and the optic nerve.
